Abstract

PROTECT: A Millimeter-wave Programmable Radio platfOrm and Tactical wirelEss Communication TestbedPROTECT: A Millimeter-wave Programmable Radio platfOrm and Tactical wirelEss Communication Testbed. This proposal will provide a group of Northeastern researchers with an experimental testbed composed of 4 customized fully-programmable mmWave platforms from National Instruments (NI), operating at 60 GHz and equipped with a phased-array comprised of 12 antenna elements. The mmWave transceiver system will be built on the NI PXI platform, will have 2-GHz baseband processing capabilities, a 2-GHz filtered intermediate frequency (IF) stage and LO module, and modular mmWave radio heads that reside external to the chassis. This testbed will provide unique opportunities for cutting-edge research and experimentation with mesh-networked mmWave systems, which are substantially unexplored in academic research so far.
