2019 Gordon Research Conferences and Gordon Research Seminars Block Grant

Abstract

The 2019 Gordon Research Conference on Applied and Environmental Microbiology will be chaired by Dr. Kirsten Küsel (Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Jena, Germany) and Vice- Chaired by Dr. Joel Kostka (Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, USA). The main objective of the Gordon Research Conference on Applied and Environmental Microbiology is to present and discuss new, fundamental research findings on microorganisms, their activities in the environment, their ecosystem-level effects, such as to global warming, their environmental applications in bioremediation and bioenergy, and other commercial applications. to accomplish this goal, knowledge of microbial evolution and speciation, their interactions and opulation dynamics, the particular habitats impacted, the cycling of naturally occurring and hazardous substances, the genomic basis of microbial processes, and methodologies to assess the functional relationships of microorganisms in their habitats is essential for understanding the ecological consequences of microbial activities and the formulation of generalizing principles.
