Naval STEM ExpositionNavy League of the United States
Abstract
The Navy League STEM Institute was created in 2013 to further the Navy League of the United States~ mission and focus on youth programs, with the goal to excite and inspire students about the possibilities of STEM education and careers, the effect they will have on the future of our country and increase student self-efficacy in subjects that have traditionally been negatively portrayed. To address the growing problem of a diminishing technician pipeline and to improve the quality and the quantity of the future STEM workforce, the Navy League STEM Institute will host its fourth Naval STEM Exposition on May 5, 2019 at the beginning of the Navy League~s Sea-Air- Space Exposition. This event will showcase the importance of a naval STEM career by highlighting Naval and Marine Corps STEM skill sets, content, career opportunities, facilities, personnel and best practice programs. The Naval STEM Exposition will utilize a diverse group of highly experienced STEM professionals comprised of Navy and Marine Corps personnel (uniformed, civilian, active duty and retired), naval laboratories and contractor organizations who will engage with middle school and high school students in an informal learning environment via participation in hands-on activities and discussions about career exploration.
