Modification of Feedstock Material to Improve Corrosion Resistance of Additively Manufactured 316L Stainless Steel

Abstract

Funds are provided to produce modified SS 316L feedstock with high corrosion resistance that contains homogeneous microstructure, uniform dispersion of the inhibitors, high amount of nitrogen, and uniform dispersion of oxide particles using high-energy ball milling (HEBM) and characterize AM SS 316L modified feedstock; produce AM SS 316L test specimen using selective laser melting (SLM) with various sizes printed in different directions; study the influence of AM parameters using large scale production of modified feedstock material; and characterize AM SS316L test specimen using various analytical and corrosion testing methods.
