Employing Braid-Encoded Feature Graphs on Sparse Gabor Dictionaries for Feature Discovery in Active Sonar

Abstract

This project addresses the open challenge of detecting and disambiguating potentially overlapped acoustic echo features in the pres"ence of environmental scattering using active sonar. Undertaken will be to design active sonar signaling schemes for different acoustic echoes that encode the scattering physics unique to a given acoustic echo onto feature graph representations. The proposed techniques combine a novel mix of signal processing, informatics and manifold geometry that will be explored over simulation models and experimental field data. In particular, the proposed methods are aimed at (i) detecting features that morph smoothly across different" angles and ranges, and (ii) unraveling overlapped features that exhibit distinct spectral topology.
