An Innovative CubeSAT Exploring Littoral Oceanographic and Atmospheric Dynamics (ICELOAD)

Abstract

The team led by the University of Miami seeks to advance the state-of-the-art in small spacecraft synthetic aperture radar (SAR) by combining an innovative concept of operations, miniaturized SAR (CubeSat-SAR) using X-band or Ku-band hardware based on ARTEMIS Inc~s previous airborne SAR developments, new deployable antenna design (based on origami concept), and an integrated structural battery to assist with SAR transmitter power. These innovations will enable the next-generation 10-kg class SAR spacecraft with ground resolution on the order of 2-5 meters - - - - -
