Developing and Testing of Optical and Acoustic Imaging Systems on both Remotely Operated Vehicles and Autonomous Vehicles to Better Understand Submerged Caves Systems

Abstract

We request funds for engineering support, development and design services from Woods Hole Marine Systems, Inc. (WHMSI). WHMSI has a documented history of successful engineering projects, including designing and building the ARGUS/HERCULES ROV system, and will be overseeing items listed under Section C Equipment listed in year 1 of this budget. We also request funds to pay for a diver support team in order to undertake mapping operations aboard M/V PEACE at Lady Harbor and Osborn Cave systems. Finally, we request funds to contract with Stone Aerospace to: 1. Work in conjunction with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on systems design, integration and testing of the SUNFISH and SUNDANCE vehicles; and 2.Test capabilities of SUNDANCE vehicle to perform cave exploration aboard M/V PEACE. Cost estimates are vendor provided.
