Very High Power and High Efficiency MWIR and LWIR Quantum Cascade Lasers

Abstract

Abstract - Approved for Public Release:The program goals are improvement in room temperature wallplug efficiency for Band IVb Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs) to 40% and increase in continuous wave optical power for Band IVa and LWIR QCLs to 10W. To meet these goals, new QCL active region and waveguide designs will be systematically explored under this program. The development of next generation QCLs will pave the way for an all-QCL-based multi-color DIRCM platform with unprecedented combination of size, weight, and power to address future Navy needs. These devices will also find applications in other critical DoD applications, including free space communications and infrared illumination.
