Analysis, Quality Control, Documentation, and Distribution of SCICEX and ONR Marginal Ice Zone and Sea State DRI Data

Abstract

Here we propose to work with lead investigators at the University of Washington Applied Physics Laboratory to ensure that federal directive requirements are met for data acquired during the ONR Marginal Ice Zone Departmental Research Initiative (hereafter the MIZ DRI) and the Waves and Sea State Departmental Research Initiative (hereafter the Sea State DRI). In addition, we will build on our previous work with Submarine Arctic Science Program (SCICEX) data, adding 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018 acquisitions to the existing archive. After describing the history of the SCICEX data collection and proposed work going forward in detail, we turn to the ONR Arctic Research Initiative (ARI) collections. Most of these ONR ARI data are now held at the University of Washington APL, with plans to release them to an unnamed permanent archive. We are proposing to be that archive. Beyond compliance with the federal directive, archival with NSIDC will further ONR Arctic and Global Prediction Program goals of responding to emerging Arctic requirements by greatly improving the ease with which researchers can find, access, and (re)use ONR program data.
