2019-2023 Operations, Maintenance, Repair, and Upgrade of Univ of Delaware Oceanographic Research Assets

Abstract

The University of Delaware proposes to operate oceanographic research vessels in support of the Office of Naval Research (ONR) scientific research for the period 2019-2023. The University will operate the R/V HUGH R SHARP (SHARP) using best professional practices to carry out assigned scientific research missions. To do so, the University will provide mariners and technicians to operate the SHARP or other vessels at sea. The University will also provide shore side operational, logistical, technical, and administrative support from our home port shore facility and main campus. The R/V SHARP is a regional/coastal vessel of 146’ length over all with a 32’ beam. The ship is owned by the University of Delaware and is a member of the University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) research fleet. The ship is based in Lewes, Delaware and can transit to any proposed port on the East Coast. The ship is designed and staffed for 24 hour operations. The ship follows safety, scheduling, and administrative directives of the National Science Foundation and UNOLS.
