Sonar signal processing for the USRS DRI

Abstract

Develop R&D signal processing framework for analyzing data from a large, forward looking multibeam system like the ATLAS sonar, with the intention of extracting geophysical parameters to be compared with other in situ and remote sensing methods. Explore the use of said large multibeam systems for observing phenomena and estimating parameters of interest such as 2 D and 3D structure of bubble plumes and shear turbulence structures. Observations of temporal evolution of these factors. Quantifications of the impact of highly variable SVP s on sonar imaging performance. Inversion of SVP s using observable information from the system. Any other features from which oceanographers can infer significant information about the environment. Work with the Under Sea Remote Sensing (USRS) DRI group to convey sonar results to oceanography researchers in a relevant and meaningful manner
