Support and advancement of the Ocean Acoustics Library (OALIB) website with additions of an underwater acoustics data repository and public communication forum.

Abstract

We propose to provide essential underwater acoustic computational models, tools and field data to reach the entire underwater acous"tics community. To do this, we propose to improve and upgrade the Ocean Acoustics Library (OALIB) website and include new additional features, the Underwater Acoustics Data Repository and a public Acoustics Model Forum. The OALIB site contains computational codes for underwater sound simulation and modeling, along withassociated code documentation and some other ocean acoustic reference material. It has been managed and served for many years by Heat, Light, and Sound Research, Inc., San Diego, CA (Dr. Michael B. Porter). Recently, the hosting has changed to Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The site contains community acoustic models used in research, as well as otherimportant acoustics-related links, to study underwater sound and to analyze the physical connections of ocean processes, features and biology with acoustic propagation effects. Under this project the OALIB site will be upgraded to maintain reliability, speed, and security, plus metrics of completeness and up-to-date nature will be analyzed and these will be addressed if needed. The data repository and community forum design will be developed and put into place, including submission templates for data, metadata. Metadata includes quality assurance metrics and quality control metrics.
