Virtual Manufacturing Lab VM-Lab A Multimedia Design House for Digital Learning in Manufacturing-USA Workforce Education

Abstract

Virtual Manufacturing Lab (VM-Lab): A Multimedia Design House for Digital Learning in Manufacturing-USA Workforce Education.Across the nation, Manufacturing USA (M-USA) institutes are engaged in ambitious revitalization programs to enhance American industrial capacity for a 21st century high-tech economy. Several years into these programs, it is apparent that in addition to creating a new technology infrastructure, an equal if not greater challenge will be to develop a modern online workforce education platform to reskill and upskill incumbent and incipient engineers and technicians. Workforce education research led by Prof. Kimerling~s AIM Photonics Academy program at MIT has identified a critical need for an online education vehicle that enables self-directed upskilling and certification across integrated photonics
