Abstract

ALMMII is a national and regional economic asset with high-impact potential for the national manufacturing economy, driving industry toward Advanced Manufacturing practices, materials processing, and processes to benefit the warfighter, accelerating technology to serve our national defense and economic interests, and ensuring an educated and skilled advanced manufacturing workforce for decades to come. ALMMII investments continue to foster a focused the collaboration ecosystem between industry, academia, and government across this full range of activities and can be organized more broadly around four key themes:~ Rapidly maturing and demonstrating production scale-up of existing, innovative, light weight and modern materials;~ Shortening the time necessary to design, integrate, and evaluate novel, affordable, materials, including lightweight alloys and next generation metals into new and existing products;~ Developing more affordable, competitive, automated manufacturing processes relevant to lightweight and modern materials;~ Developing the tools, skills and knowledge base within the materials design and manufacturing workforce to be able to leverage the latest advances as incorporated by or brought forth by the successes of the ALMMII.
