IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy, and IEEE Symposium on Security and PrivacyWorkshops
Abstract
This proposal seeks the support from ONR for the IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy and the associated workshops. Since 1980, the lEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy has been the premier forum for presenting developments in computer security and electronic privacy, and for bringing together researchers and practitioners in the field. The Symposium is sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Security and Privacy (SP). The Symposium focuses on security and privacy issues of cyber systems and data, and is very relevant to the mission ofNavy and other DoD agencies. The success of the Symposium relies on the experience of senior members of the community but requires fresh ideas and new people to join the community. As such, and to encourage US graduate students to participate in the exciting technical program and events at the Symposium, we are requesting support from ONR that will be used for sponsoring the travel expenses for graduate students who are otherwise unable to attend. Note that the requested funds will not be used for food and beverages. In this proposal, the total amount requested is $5,000 on the basis of a travel grant of approximately $1,000 - $1,500 for each selected student. The funding will be approximately split evenly between the Symposium (SP) and the Workshops (SPW), as needsdictate. We believe attendance to SP/SPW will be very beneficial to young scientists who otherwise would be unable to participate. Travel support for students will be advertised nationwide and women, minorities and disabled students will be especially encouraged to apply for the grants. The high-quality technical program at the Symposium is relevant to the research areas outlined in BAA N00014-19-S-B001 under the the Physical Systems Cyber Program of Expeditionary Maneuver Warfare & Combating Terrorism Department (Code 30), and Mathematics, Computers and Information Sciences program of Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) (CODE 31). Supporting student attendance helps bring new members into the cyber security community, helps increase diversity and helps with research training and workforce development in an area critical to ONR and other DoD agencies.
