Limits of Detection & Maintenance Training of Detection Dogs

Abstract

These studies shall investigate the limits of olfactory detection of dogs and optimal maintenance training parameters for supporting detection dog performance. This investigation shall extend previous ONR and Dstl sponsored work by CPS, which characterized fundamental aspects of odor memory in the dog, to examine the most efficacious (i.e., both efficiency and effectiveness) manner of maintaining detection dog performance. Both of these efforts are critical to providing fundamental understanding of the characteristics of canine olfactory detection to maximize the capabilities of detection dogs for mobile, real-time sensing.
