2021 Micro and Nanoscale Phase Change Phenomena Gordon Research Conference & Seminar
Abstract
The Micro and Nanoscale Phase Change Heat Transfer GRC will be held in Hotel Galvez, Galveston, TX, January 17-22, 2021. This GRC is now the fourth conference in the series and is well-established as the forum to discuss fundamental issues related to all aspects of phase-change phenomena in small-scale systems, consistently attracting a large number of participants from all over the world. The upcoming conference will allow the community to identify future needs and to develop research strategies for the most pressing problems associated with applications in such diverse areas as thermal management, energy conversion, energy storage, flexible manufacturing techniques, and weapons systems. This GRC ties in well with the ONRs mission of fundamental understanding of phase-change heat transfer for addressing thermal management challenges in various naval applications. The conference format allows for plenty of informal interactions between junior researchers and top experts in the field, as well as between scientists from different research communities. In addition to the main conference, a Gordon ResearchSymposium on the same topic will run January 16 and 17, before the main conference starts. The GRS is run entirely by graduate students and postdoctoral associates and gives the early career researchers a unique forum to present and share information independent of the senior people who normally populate a GRC. The GRC organization provides only a fraction of funding needed, so additional financial support is essential for the ability to run a successful conference.
