DONC2020 Conference
Abstract
Nanocrystals: From Size Scaling Laws to Applications: DONC2020 Conference in GermanyThe field of semiconductor nanocrystals was started in the early 1980s with the discovery of the size-dependent optical properties of nanocrystals. While being mostly objects of scientific curiosity during the first 30 years, during the last decade nanocrystals have been developed to a level where they form the prospective potential basis for multibillion dollar applications. Aprominent example in that respect is the usage of the latest generation of heavy metal free nanocrystals as solid state dyes in the high brightness TV screens that is a multibillion dollar product of the Samsung company. Therefore, we are convinced that as the field is on the cusp of more applications, it is just the right time to bring together world-leading specialists, including many of the pioneers in the field. At the meeting speakers will present and discuss the perspectivesfor advancing the field, covering topics ranging from advancing basic nanocrystal chemistry and physics to accelerating the transfer into applications. The workshop shall be held from 2020 October, 6th to 8th, at Dortmund Technical University in Germany. We are requesting funds from the ONR to cover the costs of travel expenses of 4 invited speakers from the USA. These scientistsdo not have sufficient international travel funds but their participation is critical for success of the meeting due to their contributions into development of the nanocrystal field.
