UUV Magnetic and Electric Field Sensing Network II

Abstract

In the proposed work, we will develop and demonstrate the capability to make both magnetic and electric field measurements with the Riptide Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV). In order to develop and assess our capability, we will perform tests at the Acoustic Research Detachment (ARD) on our UUVs, sensors, and Riptide systems needed to implement these tests.First, we will test our systems on the Riptide UUV assembled from the parts purchased by the University of Idaho (UI). These tests will be performed at ARD on the UI assembled Riptide and later on the customized Riptide procured by ONR. Once these initial tests have beensuccessfully completed, UI will perform measurements with both electric and magnetic sensors at ARD. Under this proposal, a sensor recording module will be developed and field tested at ARD with a BAE Riptide UUV and made available to ONR for ocean testing.
