Abstract
New directions in the development of atomic clocks - FY2019-000423-AS. The goal of this proposal is to spearhead the effort in further development of atomic clocks of the next decade. We will (1) provide solutions to critical existing problems in current atomic optical clocks, especially those being developed for operation outside of a laboratory environment, and (2) develop new clock schemes in which systematic effects are naturally suppressed, leading to either simplified clock set up, next generation of accuracy, or both and (3) investigate strategies to improve stability of the trapped-ion clocks.
