Development of Joint Autonomous Repair Verification and Inspection System

Abstract

The main goal of this program is to develop an integrated repair and inspection cell used for bothrepair and inspection of Black Hawk main rotor blades to improve mission readiness throughintegration of advanced technologies. The NDI modules will be designed to detect manufacturingdefects, in-service damages, and known aging issues of rotor blades. Due to complex constructionof rotor blades with various design features and materials, a complex inspection system withmultiple inspection technologies will be employed. Repair modules require integration of varioustechnologies such as 3D scanning for virtual reconstruction of surfaces, damage removal, surfacepreparation and analysis, repair design and data for 2D ply cutting, laser-projection for plyalignment, in-situ consolidation of repair plies, and thermal management during cure.
