THE TRANSIENT AEROACOUSTIC RESPONSE OF TURBULENCE INGESTING ROTOR SYSTEMS

Abstract

Funds are provided to design and perform two experiment on, in controlled scientific context, the generation, evolution and ingestion of transient turbulent disturbances into a rotor system. Specific tasks include investigation of the evolution of transient disturbances embedded in a shear flow; examination of the effects of pressure gradient on that evolution; study the effects that lateral curvature and departures from axisymmetry have on the Turbulence Ingestion Noise (TIN) generated by a rotor placed at the rear of a fuselage-type configuration.
