NIUVT - Accelerating Innovation in Undersea Vehicle Technology (FY19) Human Subject Projects
Abstract
NIUVT - Accelerating Innovation in Undersea Vehicle Technology (FY19) Human Subject ProjectsThe NIUVT is a partnership between the University of Connecticut (UConn), University of Rhode Island (URI), and General Dynamics Electric Boat (EB), and is in collaboration with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport (NUWC), the Undersea Warfighting Development Center (UWDC), and others in the Naval Research Enterprise (NRE). The NIUVT aims to be a strong partner in our national defense by providing an organizational construct that accelerates innovation by bringing together undersea partners for applied research, technology transition and workforce development. The NIUVT will be a resource for the development of new capabilities and technologies to ensure naval dominance for the future fleet. Consistent with Navy strategy, the NIUVT mission is to accelerate the development and transition of enabling technologies to advance and streamline the design and manufacturing of the next generation U.S. undersea fleet. The NIUVT provides a new and innovative entity in the U.S. undersea research and development enterprise that will bridge the cultural gap between academia and industry to accelerate technology innovation and capability adoption. This proposed funding will allow NIUVT to pursue applied research initiatives to effectively meet current and future needs of the Navy. Applied Research. NIUVT has selected two (2) comprehensive (COMP) research projects to be funded in this proposal. The projects were pre-selected through a competitive process with reviews provided by EB indicating funding priority as high, medium or low and with NUWC serving as advisors to the process. NUWC has stated interest in participating in these prospective efforts should they be successfully funded.
