Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Cybersecurity Research Training Program at Hampton University
Abstract
Hampton University (HU) is a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) located in Hampton, Virginia that houses an Information Assurance Center that is designated as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE, previously named CAE in Information Assurance Education) by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). HU has been developing its information assurance and cyber securityprogram over the past 15 years and contributing to the fight against the cybersecurity threats facing our nation by developing students that are aware of information assurance issues and capable of addressing these issues in their post-baccalaureate careers. In order to prepare our cybersecurity workforce, HU is requesting funds for the period of 12 months to prepare our students beyondclassroom activities by integrating them in research projects related to cybersecurity. Proposed initiative entitled Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Cybersecurity Research Training Program at Hampton University will bring undergraduate students in the Department of Computer Science, especially those who are enrolled in ROTC programs at Hampton University. This proposed initiative will (1) significantly expand research capacity in artificial intelligence as its related to cybersecurity, (2) prepare underrepresented minority students for the nations workforce with real-world research problems, and (3) enable underrepresented minority students opportunity to conduct and present their research outcomes and results at technical conferences/symposiums.
