TFO Acoustics and Oceanographic Data Repository
Abstract
"Propose to provide an essential central site for TFO participants to securely and easily share their data and information with the rest of the TFO PIs. Many TFO sponsored PIs will be soon performing field work. There is a need for creation andaccess to a central place for communication, data storage and distribution. This site will provide all, and only, the TFO participants a place to share their data with the other TFO PIs and provide information on the progress of their work. It should help foster communication and visibility within the TFO community. Tools and tasks from this repository could be expanded later to include the wider underwater acoustics research community. Although there are many oceanographic data repositories available to researchers, there is no site dedicated to underwater acoustics data. Acoustics data sets are typically large and in a number of levels of processing. Important acoustics-related field work, especially ONR sponsored field work, is difficult to find and access. This work will provide a secure, dedicated site for unclassified acoustics research data starting with current TFO sponsored field work, with the understanding that the data, tools and resources developed here will be available for future Navy task planning and decision support."
