Wet Bonding of Structural Materials with Biomimetic Adhesives

Abstract

The Navy has several needs for bonding together materials while working in the perpetually wet oceans. Most man-made adhesives, however, do not function well in water. Here we propose to use a biomimetic adhesive system for bonding together substrates in use by theNavy. Goals for this project are to:Aim #1:Maximize Adhesion Between Substrates of Navy Interest Aim #2:Modify Viscosity to Have Familiar Handling Characteristics Aim #3:Determine Corrosion Resistance of a Biomimetic Adhesive Aim #4:Obtain Target Color for a NewAdhesive(Approved for public release.)
