Optically clear or transparent zwitterionic nonfouling coatings

Abstract

The objective of this work is to develop optically clear or transparent coatings. These coatings must meet three requirements: transparent, nonfouling and stable for a long period of time under marine environments. Three well-established approaches will be used to prepare these coatings including zwitterionic conjugated polymers, zwitterionic hydrogels and zwitterionic incorporated PDMS. Coatings will be screened and tested for the first year, optimized for the second year and scaled up for the third year. Coating formulations will be evaluated in laboratory and field tests. By the end of the project, one or more formulations will be ready for real-world applications.
