KAUAI SOURCE RESTART 2021

Abstract

The Applied Physics Laboratory at the University of Washington (APL-UW) has a low-frequency electro-acoustic underwater transducer, designated as HX554, located off-shore of the island of Kauai. The effort described here proposes to resurrect and restart APL-UWsHX554. This effort is being planned in collaboration with N974, who will replace the damaged armored section of the Kauai cable. APL-UW will support all testing during cable repair, and afterward bring back online all shore-based hardware needed for long-range navigation, communication, and tomography experiments.
