ONR Graduate Traineeship Special Research Award in Ocean Acoustics Program for Daniel Michael Duane

Abstract

This award provides an opportunity for Daniel Duane to continue to conduct research in Ocean Acoustics at MIT as a graduate studentResearch Assistant. The primary research goal will be to study and improve methods of remote sensing in an ocean waveguide using acoustic data collected in the Nordic Seas from February through March of 2014. He will continue to analyze several areas related to wide-area sensing, including ambient noise, acoustic clutter, seafloor scattering, transmission, and statistical fluctuations. In addition, he will continue to contribute to the planning and conducting of an upcoming field experiment in the Nordic Seas. The proposed research will continue to help enhance the Navys capability for underwater detection, localization, and imaging. Daniel will continue to be under the direct supervision of Prof. Nicholas Makris in this research.
