UHMS Annual Scientific Meeting

Abstract

The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) is an international scientific organization that was founded in 1967 to foster exchange of data on the physiology and medicine of commercial and military diving. The society has grown to over 2,000 members and has established the largest repository of diving and hyperbaric research collected in one place. Clinical information, an extensive bibliographic database of thousands of scientific papers, as well as books, and technical reports which represent the results of more than 100 years of research by military and university laboratories around the world are contained in the UHMS Schilling Library, holdings which are now part of the Duke University Library, Durham, North Carolina. The results of ongoing research and clinical aspects of undersea and hyperbaric medicine are reported annually at scientific meetings and in the society journal Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine, published quarterly. As required by the bylaws of the UHMS, it has held an Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) for more than 50 years for the purpose of disseminating the latest information, science and research in the field of undersea and hyperbaric medicine. The UHMS ASM hosts over 400 U.S. and international physicians, scientists, nurses, technicians, respiratory therapists and other allied health care professionals, who specialize or have interest in the field of UHM. The UHMS ASM is coordinated by experts in the field of undersea and hyperbaric medicine, including Department of Defense (DoD) personnel. This years meeting will be held June 10-12, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
