Cybersecurity and STEM Research Experiences for Navy ROTC

Abstract

The increasing penetration of interconnected digital technology requires a diverse, world-class, and technically savvy STEM workforce in order for the United States to maintain a competitive edge among both civilian and military organizations. And these technologies, with all their advantages, bring with them the ever-increasing threat of attacks. This project will help selected Naval Science (NROTC) students discover and develop their research interest and capacity in cybersecurity and advanced RF electronics through a year-long (48 week) research experience.Additionally, the proposers aim to develop and hone the cybersecurity operational skills through immersion in a cybersecurity operations environment. Combined with a series of professional development activities designed to build research skills, and culminating in a participant symposium, the proposed program will provide a well-rounded research experience for NROTC students in broad priority areas identified in the Naval Research and Development Framework.
