Support for Scientific Interactions with Submarine School, Groton CT, and Additional Related Task Force Ocean Activities
Abstract
We propose to supplement physical oceanographic work for the New England Shelf Break Acoustics Experiment as part of the Task ForceOcean program with three efforts. The first is to support presentations and interactions with the Submarine School in Groton CT as a vehicle to communicate Task Force Ocean and broader ONR research to the submarine fleet. This will support Gawarkiewicz in both presenting work in Groton at quarterly intervals as well as meetings at WHOI with acousticians from the Submarine School. Second is extending a postdoctoral position through the summer of 2021 to hasten analysis and preparation of a manuscript on physical oceanography results from the New England Shelf Break Acoustics Experiment. Third, this will allow Gawarkiewicz to analyze data and prepare a manuscript for a peer-reviewed journal from the Seabed Characterization Experiment in 2017. All of these efforts are beneficial to the Task Force Ocean Program as well as to the Submarine Fleet.
