Charter of R/V CT in support of Seabed Characterization Experiment 2021, Preston Wilson

Abstract

The R/V Connecticut will be part of a multi-ship operation providing at sea project support for Seabed Characterization 2021 which is a Phase 1 experiment to infer information about the seabed in a region around the shelf-break and south of the New England Mudpatch in water depths that lie between 200 1000 meters. The scientific goal is to use remote sensing methods that utilize both broadband and narrowband acoustic recordings on a variety of multiphone arrays (both hydrophones and vector sensors). These data will beavailable to all PIs in the group in order to perform inversion analyses to infer the statistical properties of model parameter values that characterize the seabed over the 5-10,000 Hz band. The dynamic positioning capabilities of the R/V Connecticut will allow for close operating conditions with other participating research vessels to safely and efficiently support the research needs of the project.
