An i3XO EcoMapper AUV Supporting Research in Science of AI and Science of Autonomy

Abstract

The proposed acquisition includes an i3XO EcoMapper AUV at an estimated direct cost of$165,050. The i3XO will allow PI Zhang and hi s team to validate the AI and autonomyalgorithms on a reliable platform fully loaded with navigation and sensing capabilities to su pporttwo active ONR research grants lead by the PI. In particular, it will support the StochasticDistributed Optimal Dual Control : A Unified Framework for Decentralized Multi-agentPerception and Planning (SDODC) from the Science of AI program, and the Indivi dualDifferences and Bio-Inspired Design of Vehicle Group Dynamics from the Science ofAutonomy program. In addition, the AUV will support research in underwater acousticcommunication and oceanography survey, as well as education and outreach activities. Thepr oposed equipment was not budgeted in any of the previous grants.
