Hierarchical Integration of Polymer-derived ceramics with Engineered Reinforcements for AM (HIPER)

Abstract

HRL Laboratories, LLC, proposes a 36-month effort to research and develop free-form and rapid fabrication of tough fiber-reinforced,ceramic matrix composites (CMCs). HRL will utilize its demonstrated polymer-derived ceramic additive manufacturing technology combin,ed with hierarchical (micron to millimeter) reinforcement architectures. Model-based processing conditions will overcome conventiona,l CMC fabrication limitations. The project will ultimately provide a framework and understanding for rapidly fabricating high-toughn,ess CMCs for DOD applications.
