Elemental Excelerator Program Assistance
Abstract
Since 2013, Elemental Excelerator has been working with the Office of Naval Research (ONR), United States Pacific Command (PACOM), o,ther US joint and naval commands, universities, businesses, and governments to identify relevant solutions for energy infrastructure, resiliency and security under the Navys Asia Pacific Technology and Education Program (APTEP).Over the last eight years, Elemental, Excelerator has developed unique and effective models for identifying, incubating, and accelerating the commercialization of early-,stage startup technologies that are of interest to the Navy. This has resulted in commercialization assistance to over 135 companies, and has led to the deployment of over 70 projects in the Hawaii and Asia-Pacific regions. ONRs assistance awards have largely made, these successes in program development possible through the provision of structured funding for Elemental operations and investment,s. Program funding has also allowed the development of an Elemental team focused on Equity and Access, putting diversity and social, equity at the center of all programmatic operations. Companies in the top 25% of gender and ethnic diversity outperform their counte, rparts in the lower 25% by EBIT margins of over 10%.2Elementals long-term commitment to diverse founders, capital and communities h,as proven that an economically viable model is fully viable alongside a purpose driven model. We are living through an extraordinary, momenta convergence of multiple crises. Biden and Harris have framed their Administration around addressing four crises: control th,e pandemic, provide economic relief, tackle climate change, and advance racial equity. And, after over a decade of deploying innovat, ive climate technology solutions in neighborhoods, farms, and factories, it is clear that solving the climate crisis must pair with, addressing social inequities. American ingenuity and grit continue to lead the way, and Americas return to the Paris Climate Accord,s and global stagealong with ambitious and inspiring national commitmentsmarks an extraordinary moment to scale climate innovation, and social impact, together.Eliminating polluting greenhouse gases from the U.S. economy by 2050 and reducing carbon pollution by 5,052% by 2030 are aggressive goals, but science tells us they are imperative to sustain our thriving communities, and life on this p,lanet. The U.S. re-commitment to addressing climate changethe biggest challenge of our lifetimeis going to require a steep increas,e in resourcing innovation, commercialization, and deployment, public and private investment, and partnership and coordination withi,n regions and nationally. And there is reason to be urgently optimistic because there are proof points that this transformation is a,chievable in cities and communities across the nationled by entrepreneurs, in partnership with those most impacted. We are respectfu, lly applying for a financial assistance grant award of $32,500,000 to continue program deliveryfor the next 5 years, through 2027.
