ONR White Paper Tracking Number 22-000001728: Fiber-Optic Acoustic Emission Sensor Systems with Sing

Abstract

SOW: Funds are provide to Dr. Ming Han, from Michigan State University, in the amount of approximately $150,000.00 for the first yea,r with the first increment of $1.00 for a new 3 year Grant starting in FY22 and totaling around $450,000.00 for work towards investi,gating the feasibility of a ?Fiber-Optic Acoustic Emission Sensor Systems with Single-Sideband Laser Interrogation?. This program i,s part of ONRs broader and continued efforts towards Sensors, NDE, Condition Based Maintenance, Prognostics and Structural Materials, Applied Research. Some of the activities to be performed by the PI include: 1- Noise analysis from radio frequency (RF) components,; 2- Feedback control system development for locking the laser to fiber optic sensors; 3- Agile tuning range improvement; 4- Investi,gate crosstalk levels between sensors in a realistic temperature and vibration environment; 5- Investigate the Acoustic Emission det,ection sensitivity enhancement when combining the fiber optic sensors to acoustic waveguides; 6- Investigate Prototype system ; 7-, Prepare the Final Report
