International Conference on Hyperbolic Problems: Theory, Numerics & Applications HYP2022
Abstract
The International Conference on ``Hyperbolic Problems: Theory, Numerics and Applications is to be held at the University of M alag,a (Spain) from June 20 to 24, 2022:https://hyp2022.com/This HYP2022 conference will be the eighteenth meeting in the bi-annual inter, national serieswhich has become one of the highest quality and most successful conference series in AppliedMathematics. The first se,venteen meetings were held at St. Etienne, France (1986), Aachen,Germany (1988), Uppsala, Sweden (1990), Taormina, Italy (1992), Sto,ny Brook, US (1994),Hong Kong (1996), Zrich, Switzerland (1998), Magdeburg, Germany (2000), Pasadena, US(2002), Osaka, Japan (2004),, Lyon, France (2006), College Park, US (2008), Beijing, China (2010),Padua, Italy (2012), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2014), Aachen, Ge,rmany (2016), and Penn State, US (2018).The Conference was initially scheduled from June 22 to 26, 2020. Unfortunately, the situatio,n due to the Covid19 pandemic made the Organizing and Scientific Committeesof HYP2020 decided to postpone it to 2022. In the meantim,e, an online event, called HYP2020/21 Day, took place on July2, 2021. The objective of this series is to bring together researchers,, students and practitioners with interest in the theoretical, computational and applied aspects ,s. The conference will provide a forum to exchange and stimulate new ideas from different disciplines, and to formulate new challeng, ing problems that will have impact in applications. The hyperbolic meetings in this series were already proved to be successful in s,teering the development of new high resolution algorithms for the approximate solution of nonlinear conservation laws. HYP2022 confe, rence will consist of 45-minute plenary lectures, and 45-minute invited lectures held in parallel, and of sessions of 20-minute con, tributed talks on various topics related to hyperbolic equations. The plenary talks include the James Glimm Lecture and the Peter La,x Award, instituted by the Scientific Committee to distinguish an outstanding senior researcher and a promising young sciientist res, pectively. The program will be completed with poster sessions. The conference is chaired by Professor Carlos Pars and organized b,y the group EDANYA (Differential Equations, Numerical Analysis and Aplications) of the Universities of Mlaga and Crdoba. The grou,p focuses its research on the numerical simulation of geophysical fluids by means of the numerical solution of hyperbolic models. In, this context, many numerical methods have been proposed to solve hyperbolic problems that may include source terms or nonconservati,ve products.Based on the results of its research, the group has implemented a versatile software package for intensive computation i, accelerate tsunami simulations in the framework of tsunami early warning systems. This software package is being used nowadays in s,everal countries and was recognized withthe 2018 NVIDIA Global Impact Award. If circumstances allow it, a total of around 400 part, icipants are expected to attend the Conference in person: special care will be taken to apply all necessary security measures. If ne,cessary, online attendance will be provided to participants unable to leave their territory due to travel restrictions. Several mea, sures will be taken as well to attract young scientists. An effort will be made to increase the number of female participants. Procee, dings will be published at the SEMA SIMAI Series of Springer. The meeting and its Proceedings are expected to have a considerable i,mpact on steering future developments in appliedmathematics in academia and industry.-
