2022 Energetic Materials GRC

Abstract

Proposal Abstract Approved for Public ReleaseThis is a proposal requesting support in the amount of $15,000 to be used to provide, registration and/or travel support of key participants attending the 2022 Energetic Materials Gordon Research Conference. The 2022 EM, GRC brings together rising star early career researchers with discipline leading Energetic Material (EM), Reactive Material (RM), a,nd Machine Learning (ML) subject matter experts who will present research emphasizing how deeper understanding of EM/RM physics, ch,emistry, and kinetics can be achieved when coordinated efforts are brought to bear on specific knowledge gaps. The main topics of di,scussion will include atomic, micro, and meso-scale phenomenon as it relates to ignition, synthesis, kinetics, optimizing performanc,e through design (additive manufacturing), fireball dynamics, and thermal/mechanical response in EMs. All these areas are particula, rly relevant to the research objectives in energetic materials programs supported by ONR.The objective of the conference is to bring, together leading scientists from the international community, as well as young researchers and students. This helps to build a net, work of scientists who can benefit from exposure to a wide range of subjects, all encompassed by this multi-disciplinary field. The, discussion leaders and speakers for the conference have been chosen to cover many technical areas within energetic materials, and t,o include established leaders as well as emerging contributors to the field who have already demonstrated their excellence.
