Research Vessel Ship Time, Technical and Oceanographic Research Support related to the NORSE Project

Abstract

NATO-STO-Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE) requests funding to provide research vessel time onboard the NATO R,esearch Vessel Alliance in order to support the 2022 and 2023 ONR sponsored Northern Ocean Surface Evolution (NORSE) project. The re,quest also includes funding for onboard Technical and Oceanographic support as well as shore based project management and logistics, support. The Northern Ocean Rapid Surface Evolution (NORSE) Departmental Research Initiative (DRI) focuses on characterizing the key, physical parameters and processes that govern the predictability of upper-ocean rapid evolution events occurring in the ice-free hig,h latitudes. A key component of NORSE will be the ability to obtain repeated observations of acoustic transmission across a well-cha,racterized upper ocean environment for a complete annual cycle. The objective is to demonstrate improvements in the predictability o,f the upper ocean physical fields associated with acoustic propagation overthe course of the study. Approved for Public Release
