Integrated CFD and Validation Experiments for Maneuvering in Waves in Support Physical Understanding

Abstract

*Approved for Public Release*The objective and approach of the proposed research is to expand the current research activities to cov,er new integrated CFD simulations and experiments via the addition of Ph.D. graduate and/or postdoctoral students with particular fo,cus on: more challenging conditions (e.g., large wave steepness and higher speeds) to identify boundaries of acceptable intervals of, validation vs. conditions where CFD improvements are needed; investigations of the physics using integrated experiments and CFD alo,ng with the 6DoF equations of motion and local flow analysis; and using the results of the experiments and CFD for improvements of r,educed order models (such as MMG and wave induced steady force models, two-time scale, unified theories, and machine learning and ar,tificial intelligence) in collaboration with international colleagues.
