SuperPCB: A High-Temperature Superconductor Printed Circuit Board

Abstract

This basic research grant investigates material stacks to establish a foundation for high-temperature superconductor (HTS) printed c,ircuit board (SuperPCB) technology. We will study the feasibility of creating multi-layer stacks with HTS conductors and thin dielec, trics and assess its electrical losses as a function of frequency. Our concept of developing a PCB with HTS traces is in sharp contr, ast to the previous approaches of developing monolithic integrated circuits by growing multiple layers of HTS materials on a substra,te, the lack of progress on which has throttled progress in HTS electronics. If the proposed PCB approach is successful, it will wid,en the adoption of HTS technology and promote its growth for electronics applications, particularly in the microwave frequencies.
