Maritime RobotX Challenge
Abstract
RobotX is a community of innovators driven to create substantive contributions to the field of autonomous, unmanned, multi-domain ve,hicles. This program provides undergraduate and graduate level students with a real-world framework to expand their knowledge, netwo,rk with professionals, and make technology breakthroughs in the field of autonomous systems. Within three distinct platforms, partic, ipants have the opportunity to create novel autonomous systems, form connections with professionals and other students, and broaden, their proficiency in autonomous and robotic technologies specifically in maritime environments. The Maritime RobotX Challenge builds, upon the successful implementation of other student robotics competitions, such as RoboBoat and RoboSub. Teams are encouraged to le,arn from their participation in competitions such as these and apply their skills to the more advanced challenges presented in Robot,X.To accomplish this, the RobotX program aims to expand the community of researchers and innovators capable of substantive contribut, ions to the emerging field of autonomous and unmanned, multi-domain vehicles. To this goal, the program includes four related tasks:, the biennial RobotX Challenge; Virtual RobotX simulation environment and competition; biennial Interactive Forum Convening; and com, munity engagement, resource development, and data sharing initiatives. Through these activities, RobotX will provide a sustained com, munity of autonomous systems professionals with the knowledge and experience to influence future innovations in the field of maritim,e autonomy.
