STEM Platform for Facilitating Career Advancements in Bio-enabled Nanofabrication

Abstract

The immediate goal of this project is to develop a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educational platform for, the training and education of undergraduate students from primary undergraduate institutions (PUIs) for a career in bio-enabled nan, ofabrication. We will create a seminar series to introduce cutting-edge research in bio-enabled nanofabrication to students, develop, research-based teaching materials for use at classrooms and teaching laboratories of PUIs, and establish a summer research experien,ce for undergraduate (REU) program at the University of Pittsburgh to provide an entry point for students interested in pursuing res, earch careers in bio-enabled nanofabrication. Broad impact of these activities will be realized by providing online access to the se,minar series, presenting and publishing the newly created teaching materials in conferences and peer-reviewed journals, and specific, ally promoting the REU program to minority students in PUIs. Our long-term objective is to use this program as a model to facilitate, the cross-disciplinary career development of all STEM major students in PUIs.
