A Collaborative System for Source Aggregation, Creation, and Dissemination
Abstract
Project SummaryApproved for Public ReleaseThere is a rapid shift underway towards consuming information in multimedia. In advertisin,g, education, and health, videos are becoming an important means of communication and information propagation. We propose to build, d,eploy, and evaluate a system for creating open, multilingual repositories of short videos developed collaboratively. The videos are, produced by distributed teams of individuals working in close collaboration and they can be subsequently edited and improved by any, interested participant. The system can be used to create videos catering to the public or knowledgeable viewers, who after watching, the video might choose to read the sources or do a more extensive study to gather more information. Our project enables a speedy sele, ction of sources of information, their aggregation, and production in an easy to consume format in an organization. It can also enab,le increasing the public access to news developments, surveys of the latestresearch breakthroughs, or other sources of information.,Finally, in the process of creating this content, the contributors learn collaboratively, furthering educational opportunities and i,ncentivizing participation. The overall goal of the project is to build tools to make information more readily accessible and engagin,g. As a test case, we will experiment with aggregation and generation of news videos. We will use a network of volunteers to collect, ively aggregate and assess news sources on a topic and create videos summarizing and contrasting different points of view.In militar,y, as well as startups, corporations, or foundations, interdisciplinary teams are essential for solving problems or performing new a,nd sophisticated tasks. Our research on the processes for large teams to work together virtually to perform complex tasks enables be,tter synthesis of information, intelligence gathering and effective decision making in military and other large-scale organizations.
