Next Generation Modeling of UWEM signature

Abstract

The primary objective of this research program is to improve the capability to efficiently and accurately predict the underwater electromagnetic signature of naval vessels under the influence of the Earth s magnetic field, dynamic stresses, thermal gradients, andon-board degaussing coils. This will be achieved via the development of novel measurement methods for measuring magnetic properties of steels under the influence of dynamic magnetic fields, axial and biaxial stresses, shear stresses, and temperatures. The next generation of physics based cooperative models for magnetic hysteretic and magneto-stress induced magnetization will be developed. In addition to the magnetic signature will be focus on the electric signature due to cathodic protection systems when a vessel is situated in a layered medium.
