Moored Oceanic Turbulence Measurements in ASTraL

Abstract

As part of a large project focusing on air sea interaction in the Arabian Sea, we propose year-long deployments of moored ocean turbulence instruments (Xpods) at three sites in the western Indian Ocean. We will use the measurements to (i) better understand the seasonal cycle of turbulence in the Arabian Sea, (ii) quantify the downward turbulent heat flux out of the mixed layer, and (iii) evaluate climate and monsoon prediction models.
