2023 Atomic Physics Gordon Research Conference and Gordon Research Seminar
Abstract
This grant supports expenses of U.S. graduate students (enrolled in U.S. colleges or universities) and U.S. early career researchers to attend the 2023 Atomic Physics Gordon Research Conference and Seminar, which brings together top researchers and future leadersin the fields of atomic, molecular, and optical physics. The Atomic Physics GRC was inaugurated in 1973, making the 2023 meeting the 50th anniversary meeting as well as the twenty-fifth Atomic Physics GRC (since there was no meeting in 2021). Participants will discuss exciting recent breakthroughs, future directions, and newly emerging problems of great interest. Areas of direct relevance to the Office of Naval Research#s Atomic, Molecular, and Quantum (AMQ) physics program are centerpieces of the Atomic Physics GRC and GRS sessions: precision measurement, metrology, quantum sensors, ultracold atomic gases, ultracold chemistry, and atomic clocks. The Atomic Physics GRC and GRS offer a superb opportunity for young researchers to acquire a strong foundation and a broader perspectiveof cutting-edge AMQ research, to present and discuss their research results, to interact with senior scientists from the United States and the broader international community, and to establish professional networks among their peers. The 2023 Atomic Physics GRC/GRS is vital for the development of the next generation of US AMQ scientists and is of fundamental importance to keeping the U.S. atomic physics community at the forefront of AMQ research.
