Nonlinear Partial differential Equations and Their Applications: A Conference in Memory of Andrew Majda

Abstract

Analysis and numerical solution of nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs),depending on and variation over multiple scales,is important in many areas of science -- including climate, geophysics, engineering, neuroscience and material science. Thistask ismade even more difficult by the complexity of the systems, including multiplephysics, high dimensionality, multiscale structures, non-Gaussian statistics, largeuncertainties, and the incorporation of observable data. This conference is dedicated to the memory of Andrew Majda, a world-renownedapplied mathematician and computational scientist, who made many importantcontributions to the field ofPDEs and their applications. Over a career spanning nearly50 years, Andy made an immense impact on the field # with the depth and breadth ofhis results, his work with graduate students and postdocs, and his scientific influence onhis many colleagues and collaborators. The conference will be held at the CourantInstitute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University, on May 18, 2023.
