Configurable Infrastructure for Quick-Look Non-Cooperative Geolocation by a Single Receiver
Abstract
Configurable Infrastructure for Quick-Look Non-Cooperative Geolocation by a Single Receiver The University of Notre Dame requests funds to acquire configurable infrastructure for quick-look non-cooperative geolocation by a receiver. The proposed equipment includes a network of tethered drones, software defined radio payloads, software for programmed control of drone positioning and flight, and custom transmit and receive antennas. The infrastructure is intended to be leveraged for the geolocation of emitters without need for coordination with other receivers. The resulting repeater network system is anticipated to provide a valuable experimental resource that will enable research and educational opportunities for students, including undergraduate students during the school year and during the summer; undergraduates participating in the NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) research program; ROTC students involved in STEM research, and graduate students who are pursuing PhDs in this discipline. The testbed has relevance to a currently funded program as well as programs anticipated in the future. The current program includes efforts to achieve quick-look characterize and discrimination of emitter signals, and to develop and investigate quick look geolocation techniques. The proposed infrastructure will enable critical research and experimental capabilities focused on the development of a quick-look geolocation technique of non-cooperative emitters, which is a known critical need to Department of Navy and other US Services# operations. Additionally, with this system, an enduring capability will be available to address future Department of the Navy and Defense critical research requirements while providing the opportunity to educate future generations of scientists and engineers.(publically releasable)
